A WARNING for heavy sleet, hail and snow showers has been issued for the Scottish Borders.
The yellow 'be aware' notice lasts from just after midnight tonight (Thursday, February 8) until 12 noon on Friday.
Scottish Borders Council have confirmed that gritters will be out to presalt priority routes from 3.30pm today (Thursday) as temperatures across the region are set to dip to -2.5 degrees overnight.
A statement on the Met Office's weather warnings page said: "Following a spell of rain and hill snow, temperatures will fall quickly allowing widespread ice to form on untreated pavements, cycle paths and roads.
"Heavy sleet, hail and snow showers will follow. There is a chance of injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces.
"Bus and train services may be delayed or cancelled, with some road closures and longer journey times possible."
