LOCAL vets have issued a warning to all dog owners following the deaths of four pets in the Borders through infectious canine hepatitis.
The acute liver infection is highly contagious.
Although most dogs do survive, it can prove fatal and vets are advising all owners to make sure their animals are up-to-date vaccinated.
A spokeswoman for Galedin Vets, who have branches in Galashiels, Kelso, Duns, Eyemouth, Coldstream and Berwick, said: "There have been confirmed cases of canine infectious hepatitis in the Borders area.
"So far four dogs have died.
"Please ensure your dogs vaccinations are up to date - vaccinations are protective if given in time."
