TWEEDDALE MSP Christine Grahame has welcomed the news that the Post Office will be returning to Innerleithen.

The Peeblesshire News revealed last week that the owners of The Allotment store, on the High Street, had agreed to take over the service.

The previous Post Office closed in February 2017 leaving dismayed customers reliant on a once-weekly mobile service.

Ms Grahame said: “Many people are reliant on Post Office services, particularly rurally – take for example those people who run online businesses and rely on it to post out orders or indeed elderly folk who rely on it to draw their pension.

“The mobile service, whilst better than nothing, is simply not a long term solution, especially when inclement weather or mechanical issues prevent it running. I wish The Allotment every success with this new venture.”

The Post Office concession is set to open inside the store on Wednesday, August 29 at 1pm.

Further details of services offered by the new Post Office will be announced in due course.
