PRIMARY pupils from Tweeddale got to grips with all things science at a hands-on workshop at the Eastgate Theatre.
Youngsters joined scientists, engineers, and maths professionals during the second of this year’s school science days.
Science workshop days have been an annual feature of the Eastgate programme for more than a decade, with children learning about everything from the power of negative numbers to extracting DNA from strawberries.
This year artist and glassblower Dr Ayako Tani joined Dr Roger Hill’s Terrific Technology workshop where she invited pupils to explore the intriguing concept of the ship in a bottle.
A selection of ships in bottles made in Sunderland in the '80s were displayed and Dr Tani showed her own extra-large example called the City of Adelaide.
The final workshop culminated in a talk delivered by Professor Lesley Yellowlees CBE who discussed all aspects of renewable energy from the perspectives of science, engineering, economic, social and policy.
