The Met Office's latest weather warning for wind has been updated to include the southern and eastern Borders and this warning is valid until midnight tonight.
A statement issued by Scottish Borders Council states: "Whilst the entire region will experience heavy rain this afternoon, the Eastern Borders and Berwickshire coast in particular will see wind gusts increasing during the afternoon up to 50 mph."
The potential impacts of this are:
Some delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport are likely
Delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges likely
Some short term loss of power and other services is possible
It’s likely that some coastal routes, sea fronts and coastal communities affected by spray and/or large waves
"Whilst not as damaging as the recent Storm Ali winds, it will cause difficult driving conditions on exposed routes on the A1, A697 etc.
"SEPA have also issued a general flood alert for the Scottish Borders region until further notice."
