Two singer songwriters are set to join forces for an evening of music and entertainment.

The String Jam Club at The County Hotel, Selkirk are welcoming previous guest Rab Noakes along with Americana singer songwriter Jill Jackson for a special performance tomorrow (October 13).

The night will see the lifelong friends perform in what promises to be an “evening of enchanting, stripped back and captivating music”.

Rab has performed many times at the club throughout its 21 years. Early in 2015 he was diagnosed with tonsillar cancer and the treatment that followed was rigorous but, with his typical resilience, and at the earliest opportunity, he was out on the road again, playing guitar and singing, touring solo.

Organisers said: “Rab has always been considered one of our finest songwriters, but given his recent adversity, recovery, and unstoppable and creativity, he has shown himself to be one of the most evergreen, dedicated and respected figures on the Scottish music scene, always coming up with new ideas, and always delivering something fresh, intense and special.”

The performance will be Jill’s first at the club. Her new album ‘Are We There Yet?’ was released in May this year and is her fifth solo album. The Celtic Connections award winning artist’s 25-year musical journey has taken her from Paisley to Top of The Pops, to playing in every state of America.

Although a generation apart, Rab and Jill have worked and sung together for more than 20 years and the audience can expect a rich collection of songs, self-penned alongside innovative interpretations.

Organisers said: “Each of them is an enthusiastic collaborator as well as an accomplished soloist. With the combination of their voices, their wit and their obvious and infectious love of singing, they make a sparkling combination with a great sound.”

The show takes place at 7.30pm. Tickets £14 available from the County Hotel, Selkirk by phone 01750-705000 or online from Eventbrite. Tickets will be reserved for collection on the night, or you can pay on the door, subject to availability. 10 per cent off County Hotel restaurant meals 6-7pm for ticket-holders.
