PREPARE for a scare as Bowhill House announces a series of spooktacular events this October.

The historic Selkirk estate is opening its doors to visitors for a Halloween-themed scare-fest.

Visitors are invited to brave the estate’s woodland on a guided ghost walk to learn of the house’s spookiest tales.

And those who fancy a challenge are being invited to run for their lives in the annual zombie jog which will see the grounds of Bowhill overrun by zombies, vampires, ghosts and witches.

A further fright night will be held in November as the estate plays host to a haunting theatre performance of Don’t Go Into the Cellar: Library of Screams.

The show follows cagey librarian Nathaniel Caldicott as he shares tales of macabre and mysteries based on works by E F Benson and W H Harvey.

Helen Currie, House Manager at Bowhill House and Grounds, said: “Our frighteningly fun events are the perfect way to get in the Halloween spirit and are suitable for the entire family.

“I particularly enjoy the zombie run as it’s always a great sight to see everyone in fancy dress racing around the Estate. “

“I’d urge anyone interested in our Halloween events to sign up in advance to secure their place.”

The Haunted History of Bowhill Ghost Walks will run three times a day on Friday, October 26, and Saturday, October 27, and cost £10 for adults and £7 for children. For younger visitors there will also be a family-friendly tour.

The zombie jog takes place on Saturday, October 27, from 2pm, competitors are encouraged to dress up and take part in the one-mile or 5km run routes with medals for all finishers.

The 5km route costs £10 and the one-mile course is £7.50, with discounted entry available if booked in advance online.

Don’t Go Into the Cellar: Library of Screams will be performed live on Friday, November 23, from 8pm. Tickets cost £12 for adults or £10 for under 16’s and guests can opt for a supper before, costing £13.
