PLANNING bosses have asked a housing association to revise the design of its controversial proposals for affordable housing in Peebles.

Campaigners dubbed Eildon Housing Association's plans to erect two blocks of residential flats at Tweedbridge Court “poor and unsympathetic” – but said their concerns were falling on deaf ears.

Locals fear the skyline of the popular historic beauty spot would be destroyed by the height of the four-storey flats, and criticised the design fearing it would be an eyesore.

And last week Peebles Community Council was delivered the news that the application is to be re-submitted with a fresh design.

A spokesperson for Scottish Borders Council, said: “The issue of design has been raised with Eildon's agents and we are aware that they are working on some alternative proposals. Any significant revisions to the proposed scheme that are formally submitted to the council will be made available on SBC’s planning web pages and a further round of public consultation will take place at that time.”
