A MOTORCYCLIST has been banned from the road for dangerous driving with the evidence coming from a colleague's camera helmet who died in the same incident.

Hugh Hannah, 34, from Dumfries, was killed in a crash on the A701 road in Tweedsmuir on Sunday, May 13 after his bike collided with a Mini.

Police investigating the accident viewed the film and noticed that Murray Crossan - who was the lead motorcyclist among a group of friends - was travelling at an average speed of 68mph on a road which has a 60mph limit and for the final half a mile before the fatal accident he reached a speed of 98mph.

The 30-year-old, also from Dumfries, pleaded guilty at Selkirk Sheriff Court to a charge of dangerous driving and was disqualified from driving for one year and fined £450.

His lawyer said: "This is a case of a prosecution from beyond the grave.

"The man who lost his life was wearing a camera on his helmet and he kept glancing at his speedometer and Mr Crossan was the lead motorcyclist.

"If it had not been for the fatal accident the case would never have come before the court."

The court heard that Crossan had not been on his motorcycle since the accident apart from taking his friend's fiancee to the accident scene to lay flowers.
