A MOTORIST who was involved in an accident on the A702 road south of West Linton has been banned from the road for 14 months after admitting a drink driving charge.

Conor McEwan pleaded guilty at Selkirk Sheriff Court to the offence which happened during the early hours of Sunday, December 2.

Procurator fiscal Graham Fraser said a motorist noticed a Vauxhall Astra in a ditch at around 3.15am, and the engine and lights were still on. There was no-one in the car so the motorist turned off the engine and lights, and phoned the police.

Mr Fraser said the police initially could not find the car but did so by about 4.50 in the morning.

He explained: "The accused had returned to the vehicle and was asleep in the driving seat. "He provided a positive roadside breath test."

McEwan, 25, from Annan pleaded guilty to a charge of driving with a breath/alcohol count of 71 microgrammes - the legal limit being 22.

In addition to the 14 month ban he was fined £350.
