COMMUNITY group Tweedgreen are highlighting the issue of plastic pollution through two upcoming events.

Collaborating with Tweeddale Youth Action, the group are looking for contributions to a plastic waste sculpture being built by youngsters outside the Eastgate. Those wanting to get involved are asked to bring along samples of unnecessary plastic wrapping between 10 and 11am on Saturday January 19.

Organisers said: “Your plastic waste could be part of Peebles' first community waste plastic sculpture!

“Photos of the sculpture will be in the press and at our stall at the Eastgate wild film festival on the January 25-27.”

Tweedgreen will also present Tweeddale Unwrapped, a panel event on Thursday January 31 in the Eastgate Theatre.

On hand to help the audience unwrap answers to questions about what can be recycled will be a member of Scottish Borders Council waste management team, Miriam Adcock from Zero Waste Scotland and Kathleen Vaughn from Changeworks.

The audience are being asked to come along to the event with questions and examples of their confusing plastic wrappings.

Organisers said: “We are all concerned about the amount of plastic in our oceans and our environment.

“Tweedgreen invites you to events in Peebles which will highlight the issue locally and get you thinking about what we can do. Think global, act local.”

Tweeddale Unwrapped starts at 7.30pm on Thursday January 31 at Eastgate Theatre. Tickets: £6, £4 under 15 and senior citizens www.eastgatearts.com.
