A LOCAL housing provider is searching for suggestions on how to transform a patch of wasteland in Peebles.

Scottish Borders Housing Association believes the scrubland which sits between Dalatho Crescent and the Eddleston Water could be put to community use.

And they wanting residents in the area to come up with a few ideas.

Wendy Wilson, SBHA's neighbourhood housing officer for the area, explained: "We are arranging for this patch of land to be tidied up, but we would like to hear from people who live in the surrounding area.

"We would like their ideas about what should be done to make it more attractive – an area that people might wish to spend time in, or enjoy walking past or looking at from their windows.

"Maybe we should plant fruit trees? Or install a bench? We’d like to hear what people think."

Scottish Borders Housing Association has a Great Places Fund which is used to spruce up areas.

And so far in 2018/19 it has invested £182,000 in 43 projects across the region.

Bosses have already earmarked a further £280,000 for similar schemes to be spend before the end of the financial year.

Henry Coyle, SBHA’s director of customer services, told us: "The funding to carry out the work will be coming from the Great Places Fund, which is in place to proactively identify and deliver cyclical improvements to our neighbourhoods, whilst also reducing the number of reactive and emergency repairs required."
