A SUPPORT centre in Peebles has just become a lot more fun for its pupils.

The Tweeddale Support Centre, which is within Halyrude Primary School, offers placements to children whose needs can't always be met in mainstream education.

While other support centres across the Borders offered a secure outdoor play area, the Tweedale children had to spend most of their time in the classroom.

But now, following major refurbishment work by Scottish Borders Council, a new secure play area with safety surfaces has been built into the larger Halyrude playground for children from both the support centre and primary school.

Children and staff are delighted with the new resource.

Principal teacher Ann Warnock told us: "The children at both Tweeddale Support Centre and Halyrude Primary are now able to enjoy outside play in their fabulous, safe surface, fun park.

"To offer the same experiences as the other support centres within the Borders, a secure area with accessible play equipment and a soft play surface has been provided by Scottish Borders Council.

"Children also have access to bikes, scooters and other outdoor toys in the fun park."
