A CINEMA club for sheltered housing residents has applied for funding from the Peebles common good fund.

The Riverside House Film Club, which caters for the 33 residences at Riverside House, Peebles, is seeking £2,100 for a smart TV, blu ray player, and sound system, as well as purchasing films for viewing.

The application to the common good fund committee outlines the group’s core principles: “The Riverside Film Group is a constituted group created for the purpose of showing films in the sheltered housing shared social space.

“Many of the residents are unable to enjoy facilities outside and therefore this club has been created to bring them together on a regular basis to combat social isolation and provide entertainment.

“It’s hoped that more activities will flourish as a result of this starting.

“Each event will be charged at £2 per resident and £3 per visitor, which will cover future licensing fees and DVDs. Refreshments will also be available for a small charge.”

Riverside House, which is operated by Selkirk-based Eildon Housing Association, sits alongside the Tweed and is primarily aimed at older residents.

Councillors sitting on the Peebles common good sub-committee will meet on Wednesday, February 27 to deliberate on the application.
