PUPILS from Clovenfords Primary have seen off 18 other Borders schools to advance in a national quizzing competition.

The youngsters defeated Kingsland to win the regional heat of the annual Euroquiz contest.

Organised by the Scottish European Educational Trust (SEET), the quiz is open to all primary six pupils from across Scotland, who are questioned on a wide range of subjects including history, geography, sport, culture, languages and the European Union.

This year’s event took place at Scottish Borders Council Headquarters in Newtown St Boswells.
Clovenfords faced stiff competition from Kingsland in the final round but were eventually declared the overall winners.

They will now go on to compete against other local authority teams at the Euroquiz championships being held at the Scottish Parliament in May.

Councillor Carol Hamilton, SBC’s executive member for children and young people, said: "Many congratulations to Clovenfords on their well-deserved win and to Kingsland for their valiant effort.

"We wish Clovenfords all the very best as they go forward to the national finals in May where I have no doubt they will represent the Borders to the best of their ability.

"Our collective thanks go to everyone involved in the organisation of the event.

"From Councillor Euan Jardine, who admirably stepped up to the role of this year’s compere, to the admin staff, teachers and parents this really is a team effort and we are hugely grateful for all their hard work that makes this event possible."
