A REMOTE house in the Borders is starring in a Hollywood producer's new short film.

Glenternie House, in the Manor Valley, provides the eerie location for Gavin Laing's comedy-horror The Hauntening.

The 25-minute short film, which is due for screenings at film festivals around the world this year, follows an amateur ghost hunter who invites a world-famous medium to help her investigate a spooky old house she believes to be haunted.

For Gavin, who who splits his time between Edinburgh and LA, Glenternie provided the perfect backdrop for his 25-minute movie.

He said: "When making any film, location plays a vital role - but in The Hauntening, the manor is almost a character itself.

"We were incredibly lucky to find Glenternie House.

"Not only did it look great on camera, it was also a beautiful location to spend a week filming with the incredible cast and crew.

“Scotland has so much to offer filmmakers, with beautiful scenery and historic locations. We're fortunate to have so many wonderful spots on our doorstep.”

Gavin, who is originally from Edinburgh, studied Digital Film and Television from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.

His graduation short film, My First Spellbook, which he wrote and directed, won Best Undergraduate Fiction at the Royal Television Society Scotland Awards 2011, Best Comedy at the Limelight Film Awards 2012, and was nominated for Best Student Drama at the Celtic Media Festival 2012.

Gavin went on to study on the prestigious Peter Stark Producing Program at the University of Southern California’s School of Cinematic Arts.
