AHEAD of the official opening of Traquair House on Monday April 1, there will be a special opening of the Traquair grounds on March 30 and 31.

The event is also aiming to promote the new footpath which is now open from Innerleithen to Traquair.

The complete footpath network, which provides local residents with 4.5km of footpaths around the Traquair estate, will be completed later this summer and has been funded with the help of the ‘Woodlands In and Around Towns initiative from Forestry Commission Scotland.

Catherine Maxwell Stuart, 21st Lady of Traquair, told us: “We are delighted that this project, which has been in the pipeline for some years, is finally coming to fruition.

“The paths are already being well used and we hope to encourage more local people to visit Traquair and see some spectacular new views that have been opened up along the walks.”

Traquair is planning a busy summer, with a packed programme of events on offer in the coming months.

The open weekend will see early openings of the Garden Café, Brewery and Gift Shops as well as a chance to purchase a season pass for only £4.50 per annum.

The Garden Café will also be hosting a special Brexit Buffet on the evening of Friday, March 29, from 7.30pm, with advanced booking recommended.

On Saturday, March 30, there will be an opening of local artist Kellie Bremner's new exhibition from 6pm – 8pm.
