Historical sites in the Scottish Borders are reopening now for the summer season.

Historic Environment Scotland (HES), which manages over 300 historical properties in Scotland and 12 in the Borders, has launched its events programme for the summer 2019.

Hermitage Castle, with its murky stories of the past and its beautiful wildlife, and Smailholm Tower, known for the stunning views that inspired Sir Walter Scott’s, will open the doors for the season on Monday 1 April.

Dryburgh Abbey will host a Easter Eggsplorer Trail over the Easter weekend, when visitors will be given clues to complete challenges, while exploring the iconic structure.

You can get your tickets for the Easter trail in advance online and save 10% or get them directly on the day. Historic Scotland members enter for free.

Stephen Duncan, Director of Commercial & Tourism at HES, said: “The start of the season is always an exciting time for us, as we get ready to welcome new and returning visitors to our sites across the country, including the Borders.

“At Historic Environment Scotland we are passionate about being able to provide experiences that allow locals and visitors to explore Scotland’s rich heritage. Our 2019 schedule offers a great way to discover Scotland’s past, and we’re really looking forward to welcoming everyone to our venues across the Borders and further afield.”
