BIGGAR Gala Week is celebrating its 90th anniversary this year.

And to mark the occasion youngsters involved with the annual festival took part in a special event last Sunday.

The Biggar and Upper Clydesdale Museum welcomed 2019 Fleming Queen Elect Sophie Leech and her Court for a day of fun.

They were treated to face painting and got a chance to learn more about the history of the Gala Week and the town.

A spokesperson for the museum said: “It was an absolute pleasure to welcome Gala Queen Sophie and her Court to the museum. There was a great historical talk by Dolina Rigg about Mary Fleming, which added to the enjoyment of it all.

“We wish Sophie and her Court a wonderful Gala week.”

This year’s Biggar Gala Week runs from June 9 to 15.

As previously reported, the Cornet’s Club has selected Michael Allen as Cornet Elect.

He will take over the role when the 2018 Cornet Elect Allan Bartholomew is installed as Cornet in June.

The 2018 Cornet John Scott will take on the position of Right Hand Supporter.

And the 2019 Fleming Queen Elect was announced as Sophie Leech while this year’s Crowning Lady is Jill Goldie.
