TALENTED young vocalists will gather to celebrate the Eddleston Junior Choir’s 25th birthday with a concert next Friday.

The Junior Choir at Eddleston Parish Church is set to perform on April 26 and is inviting former choir members to join.

The group was formed in 1994 at the request of Rev David Macfarlane.

From small beginnings, the choir has grown in numbers and they have recorded several CDs.

Over the years, the children have been involved in organising a wide variety of fund-raising concerts to support Eddleston Parish Church, Christian Aid, the victims of Kosovo and the Syrian refugees.

They have also entertained at coffee mornings, Guilds, Dovecot Court, Tesco and events further afield.

For the last ten years they have been a part of the annual Music For a Summer Evening Concert with Eddleston Voices.

The choir regularly takes part in the Worship4all service in Eddleston and have sung in other churches locally as well as St Mary’s Church in Haddington.

Reverend Calum Macdougall said: “The Junior Choir is at the heart of Eddleston Parish Church.

“Its regular participation in worship and its contribution to life of not only the Church but the wider community is greatly valued in Eddleston.”

The choir has been trained over the last 25 years by Lorraine Mulholland, the church organist and Session Clerk. And they were accompanied by Mrs. Margaret Love up until her retirement a few years ago.

Ordained Local Minister, Reverend Pamela Strachan added: “There is nothing more encouraging than to see the choir’s eager young faces in our Worship4all services.

“We all feel rejuvenated after their contribution to our worship and are immensely grateful to Mrs Mulholland.”

The choir will be celebrating with a concert in Eddleston Parish Church on Friday April 26 at 7pm.

Former choir members are invited to come along and join in the celebrations.

Donations of £5 are appreciated and school children will be admitted free of charge.

Refreshments will be served.
