OPENING hours will be cut at Peebles' TSB bank later this year.

The company has confirmed the High Street branch will only be open on a Monday and Thursday between 9.30am and 4.30pm, from July.

Hawick, Kelso and Jedburgh will also be affected.

Bank bosses say Peebles has seen a three per cent decrease in people using the counter over the past year.

They also claim 77 per cent of customers in the area either go elsewhere or bank online.

A total of four branches are being closed in Scotland and 70 will have their hours cut.

However, TSB said there would be no job losses through the changes.

A statement to investors, TSB said: “In line with the Lending Standards Board Access to Banking Standards, we are conducting comprehensive reviews of the impact of any branch closure on the local community.

"We are taking great care to ensure our customers know what their options are and helping them with the change, including providing details on alternative banking options and offering special ‘get me started on digital’ meetings to help people get comfortable with new technology and any concerns they may have.”

TSB is recommending that customers travel 13 miles to Penicuik on days when the branch is closed.
