A BRAVE Peebles schoolgirl battling leukaemia got the surprise of her life when Scottish singing sensation Lewis Capaldi called her in hospital.

One minute seven-year-old Charly Bisset was singing along to the number one hit ‘Someone You Loved’ by the Bathgate singer-songwriter, moments later the star was singing it to her over a live video chat.

The Peeblesshire News has followed Charly’s journey since she was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia at the beginning of the year.

Her story has touched the hearts of the community who have been donating to Charly’s Wishes, a fundraiser which was set up to make her dreams come true while she battles the disease.

But there are some things that money can’t buy, and the saying ‘it’s not what you know, it’s who you know’ couldn’t be truer in this case.

Charly’s father Mark told us: “She was sitting with one of the nurses called Monique and they were chatting about music when a Lewis Capaldi song came on the radio. Charly was singing along and Monique asked if she liked him and Charly told her that she and all her sisters love him.”

As fate would have it, it turns out Monique and the Scottish singer are close friends. And, unbeknown to Charly, the big-hearted nurse messaged her pal for a favour.

Lewis was in between performing at three intimate gigs, but he took time out of his busy schedule to Facetime a delighted Charly who had spent the last month in hospital.

In the heartwarming video clip he asked Charly, who was due to go home the following day, if she was excited about getting out of hospital and what her favourite song of his was.

The doting fan asked Lewis if he would sing a song and he was only too happy to oblige, singing her the chorus of his number one hit, ‘Someone You Loved’.

Mark added: “Charly told him her sisters would be jealous that she was speaking to him. In fact her older sister Shannon cried when she found out.”

The star has invited Charly and family to his sell-out Glasgow show next March as his special guests.

Mark said: “Monique was one of many nurses that Charly really liked on the ward, but she is now by far her favourite after that treat.”
