PARK Street in Galashiels is expected to remain closed to traffic for several days after part of a building collapsed.
No one was hurt in the incident which happened yesterday morning.
But while the street will reopen to pedestrians later this evening (Monday), traffic will not be able to access Channel Street until the wall is rebuilt.
A Scottish Borders Council spokesperson said: "Council officers have undertaken a structural assessment of the gable wall today and determined based on the engineering advice that the most appropriate course of action was to rebuild the section of wall which had collapsed.
"Under emergency powers, the council has appointed a local contractor to undertake the works to make the building safe.
"Scaffolding is being erected today and works to rebuild the wall will commence on Tuesday morning.
"It is envisaged that Park Street will be open to pedestrians this evening, however the road will remain closed until the contractor has completed the repair."
