WHAT am I looking for? is an approachable summer exhibition of Borders townscapes, which opens later this month in Hawick Museum’s Waterfall Gallery.
Galashiels-based artist, Graham Stokes says he gets his ideas from the everyday by looking at colour and shape, and light and dark.
Then he looks for things which leave room for the imagination – some ambiguity or the suggestion of a story.
When the two come together, he feels he has the making of a painting.
He explains that this process helps him find interest in the kind of place where many of us were raised or now live and he hopes that viewers might imagine their own stories in these paintings.
Richard White, assistant curator of Hawick Museum, told us: “Graham’s work is a fascinating artist’s take on Borders towns, streets and houses.
"His colourful and engaging pieces are also for sale."
What am I looking for?’ runs from this week to September 22 at the Waterfall Gallery, Hawick Museum.
Admission free.
All works for sale.
