BORDERS General Hospital is experiencing ongoing telephone issues affecting incoming calls to departments within the hospital.
The issue, which is due to a fault in BT lines serving the hospital, arose over the weekend.
Whereas callers would ordinarily be able to phone wards and departments directly they are currently required to use the hospital’s switchboard, resulting in delays.
An NHS Borders spokesperson told the Border Telegraph: “We are currently experiencing telephone line issues which is affecting external calls into the Border General Hospital.
“We are liaising with BT who are currently working to resolve the issue with their systems.
“Anyone trying to contact a ward or department in the hospital should call the switchboard on 01896 826000 where our telephonists will put you through to the relevant department.
“Due to call demand you may experience a short wait.
“If your call is about a medical emergency please call 999 for an emergency ambulance.”
