VETERANS from the area were on parade last week for a ceremony at the Penicuik branch of The Royal British Legion.

The Lord Lieutenant of Midlothian, Sir Robert Clerk presented Veterans Badges to eight former members of the armed forces.

Midlothian Veterans Champion, Provost Peter Smaill, and Legion Scotland veterans community support co-ordinator, Tony Hooman, were also in attendance.

Over 60 guests enjoyed the ceremony as well as an afternoon of reflection and fun.

David Little, the welfare and support officer for the Penicuik branch said: “A great day was had by all the veterans and their families.

"The aim of the presentation is to give our veterans a day to remember, as well as their badge.

"It is just a small token for what they gave up in the past, and to let them know they will never be forgotten.”
