DRIVERS have been told that part of the A708 will be closed for daytime work on drainage systems.

A section of the road between Selkirk and Yarrowford will be closed to motorists for three weeks to resurface the road and improve drainage.

Councillor Gordon Edgar, the Executive Member for Roads and Infrastructure for the Scottish Borders Council explained: "These works will see drainage improvements, road edge repairs and resurfacing take place, which will provide a better experience for users of the A708.

“We realise this daytime closure will cause some disruption for users of this busy cross-country route, but it is vital it is carried out ahead of winter and the poorer weather."

The closure will begin on Monday, September 23 and cease on Monday, October 14.
The road will be shut from 8.30am to 5pm on weekdays, and motorists get some respite as the road will be open on weekends.

School transport will not be affected and signs will guide drivers to the appropriate diversion.
Also beginning on September 23 there will be road closures along the A701 for three days between Leadburn and Lamancha between 8am and 3.30pm. This will not affect motorists using the diversion from the A708 but those travelling from Edinburgh should follow diversion signage to reach their destination.

Councillor Edgar continued: "We thank road users in advance for their patience and cooperation during the closure.”
