MEMBERS of Peebles Rotary will take to the streets this weekend in an effort to help the Bahamas.

Earlier this month Hurricane Dorian ripped through the Caribbean islands, leaving death and destruction in its wake.

The category five hurricane killed at least 50 people and left over 70,000 in need of humanitarian assistance.

It's estimated that 13,000 homes have been damaged, infrastructure has been severely disrupted and communication lines are down

The Rotary Club of Peebles will be on the town's High Street on Saturday to collect for ShelterBox’s relief work.

A Rotary spokesman told us: "In response to the demands for help and assistance in the Bahamas after Hurricane Dorian, the club will be out on Peebles High Street on Saturday to collect money in aid of ShelterBox’s relief work in the Bahamas.

"A ShelterBox assessment team is already in the Bahamas to understand how they may be able to help people affected by the hurricane."
