MOTORISTS are being warned of overnight closures on the A702 later this month.

The road, between Bank Farm and Dolphinton Gateway, will be shut from 8pm to 6am from Monday, October 21 until Saturday, October 26.

It is to allow for essential maintenance work.

A signed diversion will be in place, while the Stagecoach 101A bus service will be escorted through works during closure hours.

A spokesperson for Amey, which manages Scotland's trunk roads, said: "The works will benefit over 4,600 vehicles using this section of the A702 each day, by improving the condition of the carriageway and reducing the need for more extensive maintenance in the future.

"Northbound traffic will be diverted via Melbourne Crossroads onto the A721 eastbound and at Kirkdean Junction will join the A72 northbound. Traffic will proceed on this route to merge with the A701 and at Leadburn Crossroads, will turn left to remain on the A701.

"At the Penicuik A766 junction, traffic will turn left to continue in a westerly direction and at Ninemileburn, diversion will end as traffic can rejoin the A702.

"Southbound traffic will follow the same diversion route but in reverse."
