A BIGGAR business has walked away from the Bestway Retail Development Awards with two certificates in their hands.

Donna and Bruce Morgan, owners of Brownlies Best-One of Biggar, took two prestigious awards home with them after the ceremony in London on October 17.

The independent shop won in the 'Scottish' and 'Wine and Spirits' categories and were awarded a cheque prize and gift voucher for Best-One.

Over the last ten years, Brownlies has become knowas the go-to place in Biggar for all your whiskey needs as they boast a stock of local and mainstream brands including a £1k bottle.

Their reputations as connoisseurs of fine whiskey and gin are boosted by the tastings they host in the Elphinstone Hotel in Biggar, inviting guests to try some great quality spirits all free of charge.

Donna and Bruce have also given a lot back to their community, they sponsor the Biggar United Junior football team, have run charity events where in the past the front of their shop has been turned into a circus or Willy Wonka's Chocolate factory.

The shop also opens for four hours on Christmas day, which brings in people buying last minute gifts or party stock and elderly locals who are happy to see a friendly face.

Paul Adams, Head of Sales & Development at best-one, said: “Donna and Bruce are excellent examples of what can be achieved through dedication and hard work.

" Bruce and Donna’s unwavering commitment to serve their community has helped their business thrive. We’re very pleased to be able to present them with both of these awards.”
