ON the back of a weekend of success at the Borders entertainment Contest in Kelso, Peebles Burgh Silver Band have revealed their programme of performances for the festive season.

Peebles Burgh Silver Band was victorious in the 4th Section, beating off three other bands at the annual competition which is organised by the Borders Brass Band Association and held in towns across the Borders region.

This year’s competition was the first to be held in Kelso.

The band had 15 minutes to perform their programme which featured traditional band tunes, a rendition of the Beatle’s hit, Hey Jude, and a Russian folk song, Kalinka.

Peter Holmes, the band’s musical director said: “Our dedicated group of players have worked hard over the past few months to put this short programme together whilst at the same time rehearing for our recent autumn concert.

“I am especially pleased that we have invested in our young players and they continue to repay my faith in them. They did Peebles proud by winning the 4th Section trophy”

The PBSB is now preparing for its Christmas Concert on Friday, December 13 in the Burgh Hall.

The band will also be performing carols on the High Street every Saturday in December.

Members have also set their sights on success at their next competition.

The Scottish Championships being held in Perth in March will give the band the chance to repeat last Saturday’s success and earn a promotion to the 3rd Section.
