REMEMBRANCE Day services across the Borders this weekend will mark the 101st anniversary of the end of the First World War.

At the eleventh hour, of the eleventh day, of the eleventh month, the guns were silenced.

By signing the Armistice in 1918, the fighting ceased and allowed world leaders to negotiate a peace agreement, the Treaty of Versailles in 1919.

Thousands of men from across the Borders enlisted, many of whom did not return.

On Sunday, towns and villages around the region will march, salute, lay wreaths and observe a period of silence to honour the men and women who gave and continue to give their lives to military service. Some local services are:
