Selkirk in Bloom preparations are already under way, with a new collaboration in the works.

At the Selkirk Community Council meeting Monday night, leader of the Blooming Selkirk sub-group, Judith Thompson revealed plans to collaborate with two groups from Selkirk High School to produce and maintain next year's plants.

The hope is that students from the Horticulture Club and the Sustainability and Enterprise group will be able to assist with both growing a selection of the plants and hopefully volunteering to maintain them during the spring and summer.

As previously reported, Scottish Borders Council are changing maintenance services across the Borders.

An application to the Common Good Fund will also be put in for new brackets for hanging baskets in the town centre.

Ms Thompson reiterated the need for funding to subsidise the costs for plants and hanging baskets not owned by Selkirk businesses. She also made note of the future demand for volunteers. She added: "We will rally for volunteers in the New Year."

In Bloom groups across the Borders have come together as a Blooming Borders group which will pool together ideas for next year's In Bloom season. The next meeting will be in Duns in January next year.
