FIVE Borders banks are at risk after TSB announced it will close more than 80 branches in the UK next year.
The firm currently has 540 bases around the country – including Galashiels, Hawick, Jedburgh, Peebles and Kelso.
But chiefs say they will have to close 82 branches as part of a plan to save £100 million by 2022.
Chief executive Debbie Crosbie said: "There is no doubt we have got challenges to face. Put simply, the biggest barrier for TSB's future is that we're much more expensive to run than our competition.
"The plan we're sharing today [Monday] involves some difficult decisions, but it sets TSB up to succeed in the future.
"Taken together, these changes will help us to serve more customers, better, for the long-term."
A full list of sites planned for closure will be published on Thursday.
