RUNNERS in Peebles are being encouraged to pull on some tartan this weekend to celebrate the 50th Haylodge Parkrun.

Hundreds of locals take part in the Saturday morning run, jog or walk around the scenic park every month.

This Saturday will be the 50th run and, as it coincides with St Andrew's Day, everyone is invited to tartan-up.

Haylodge Parkrun director Martin Kelso said: “As it’s St Andrews Day we’ll be holding a Tartan Special and encouraging runners, joggers, walkers and volunteers to add a touch of tartan to their kit.

"Or they can come in your finest Highland regalia if they want.

"If tartan’s not your thing then just wear your standard running kit.

"It’s not a race, parkrun is a just a great way to start the weekend with a bit of fun activity in the fresh air. There will be treats for all at the finish.”

Saturday's parkrun will start at the normal time of 9.30am, with a briefing for all first-timers starting at 9.20am.

The Haylodge Park route measures exactly 5km.

Martin added: "If you’ve not tried it before, parkrun is free and it happens every Saturday. Please register on the website ( http://parkrun.org.uk/haylodge), print off a barcode and come along. Children and dogs on a lead are very welcome."
