MOTORISTS are advised that the A702 at Carlops north will be closed for one night next week.

Essential maintenance work will be completed from Monday, December 16 at 8pm to Tuesday, December 17 at 6am.

The overnight works will require the road to be closed in both directions, diversions will be signposted.

A spokesperson for Amey, which maintains Scotland's trunk roads said: "Northbound traffic will be diverted via the Melbourne Crossroads where traffic will turn right onto the A721 eastbound.

"At the A72 Kirkdean Junction, traffic will turn left to join the A72 and will merge onto the A701 through Blyth Bridge, Romanno Bridge, and Lamancha.

"At Leadburn Crossroads, traffic will turn left to remain on the A701 towards Penicuik and then traffic will be instructed to take a further left turn onto the A766, Carlops Road.

"From here, traffic will be able to re-join the A702 north of Nine Mile Burn and diversion will end.

"Southbound traffic will follow the above diversion route but in the reverse direction.

"Please note, all schemes are weather dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if weather conditions are not favourable.
