ALMOST £5,000 has been raised for Peebles High in the aftermath of the fire which destroyed part of the school.

The crowd funder was set up by the parent council to support pupils in their education.

It came in response to the many generous offers of financial support from the wider community and is gathering momentum.

The parent council said money collected would not be used to cover insured losses or for replacement of large capital items which are covered by Scottish Borders Council.

And the message to locals is ‘let's make Peebles High School fire recovery happen’.

A spokesperson for the parent council said: “We have been overwhelmed by the generosity of our community and beyond after the tragic fire at our wonderful school.

"As a result we have set up a crowd fundraiser and we hope people will donate during this difficult time. We are also very grateful to Sir John Campbell for a donation of £10,000.

“We would like to thank everyone for their support and to the school staff and Scottish Borders Council for all they are doing.”
