POLICE are appealing for any witnesses to a crash near Leadburn which led to the A701 being closed for much of yesterday.
A 21-year-old woman was rushed to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary, where she is still being treated for her injuries.
Police want to hear from anyone who saw the woman's Vauxhall Astra either before or as it crashed into a tree as she headed northbound towards Penicuik at around 8.15am.
The woman driver was cut from the vehicle by fire crews.
A crash scene investigation has taken place.
Sergeant Jill Kirkpatrick said: “I am appealing to anyone who were in the area around the time of the crash to contact us.
"In particular, if you have a dash cam, please check your footage as it could have captured footage which could assist us in our investigation.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 0547 of December 11.
