A CHARITY in Walkerburn is today (Friday) waving farewell to its first Noel.

Over the past seven years former Harrods hospitality worker Noel Dashwood-Brady has been a key part of the success at Home Basics.

With retail outlets in both Walkerburn and Hawick, the charity helps reduce waste, while ensuring affordable household items are available for customers on low incomes.

But Noel, who has also ran his own hospitality recruitment agency in the past, is now calling it a day.

And he's looking forward to a retirement on Innerleithen golf course.

Home Basics chair Tracy Buchan told us: “Noel's unique contribution will be missed by all as during his time at Home Basics he has always been willing to get involved with every aspect of running the daily business.

"His hands-on approach has greatly assisted with everything from coffee mornings to helping in the warehouse and even driving the delivery van.

"Noel is a highly regarded member of the team and will be missed by colleagues and volunteers alike, as will his valuable contribution to the organisation. “

Noel started as a volunteer in the Walkerburn store in 2012 before securing part time employment for the non-profit organisation in an administration role.

Innerleithen Golf Club captain Roddy McClean added: "I look forward to seeing more of Noel at the course.

"He is an institution there. And what better way to spend your retirement than at the friendliest and most scenic course in the Borders."

Home Basics is open to everyone and has stores in Walkerburn and Hawick.

The charity's work supports people, the environment and the local community.
