UNFAZED by the fire that forced them to cancel the afternoon tea for senior citizens, Peebles High School students were determined to reorganise the Christmas tea.

Originally planned for Friday, December 6 in the High School's canteen, the tea was postponed after the school blaze on November 28.

The S6 students who had organised the event showed resilience, and came together to plan an alternative location for the tea.

The students pooled ideas for a programme and entertainment, then set a new date for the tea for Friday, December 13, to be held in the Peebles Scout Hut.

Once the initial plans were made, they were able to start making preparations for the Senior Citizens' Afternoon Tea.

They made some of the food, obtained raffle prizes from local businesses in Peebles, organised musicians and singers from the High School to perform and on the day, played bingo and socialised with the seniors over cups of tea.

The event was sponsored by the Rotary Clubs of Innerleithen, Walkerburn and Traquair and Peebles.

A spokesperson from the Rotary Club said: "It was no surprise that the number attending was only lower than envisioned at around 15 but it was completely understandable in view of the circumstances prevailing in the days before the event.

"The tea was a great success with everyone enjoying the event.

"The young people are to be applauded for their determination to see their original plan come to fruition."

The students enjoyed planning the tea so much, they have plans to host another in March next year, with a title of 'Mad March Tea' in the works.
