MOTORISTS are advised that from Monday, January 20, the A7 at Selkirk, just south of Selkirk Golf Club, there will be road works in place.

The works will last for five weeks and from tomorrow (Tuesday, January 7) the layby south of the Golf Club will be closed for the next 18 months.

The works will allow Scottish Water to complete the laying of pipes across this section of the A7.

A traffic lights system in both directions will be in place.

Scott Fraser, Regional Communities Manager at Scottish Water, said: “We apologise for any disruption this temporary road closure and use of traffic lights will cause.

“We require this to carry out essential work as part of our £30 million investment in the drinking water network in the Scottish Borders. We thank all commuters impacted by this in advance or their patience and understanding.”

A spokesperson from Scottish Water added: "This is part of a new 7-mile pipeline which will connect the Manse Street Water Treatment Works, situated to the west of Galashiels, to a new water storage tank in Selkirk.

"It will carry up to five million litres of treated water every day.

"Customers will not notice any interruption to their water supply as a result of this work as these are new pipes which are not yet in use."

Adding to the road works along the A7, the section of road will be closed from 8pm on Friday, January 24 until 5am on Monday, January 27 with diversions in place.

For southbound traffic, motorists will leave A7 at Ladylands, Selkirk, turning left onto A699 - continue to A68 St Boswells Crossroads, turn right onto A68, continue for approx. 5.5 miles to the A689 junction at Cleekimin, turn right onto A689, continue along for approx. 10.5 miles to Hawick, at Mart Street Roundabout take 3rd exit onto Mart Street, continue along Mart Street to North Bridge Roundabout and re-join A7.

All northbound traffic will follow the same diversion in the opposite direction.
