A 27-year-old man has admitted making racial comments during an incident with police in Innerleithen.
David Williams pleaded guilty to making offensive and racial remarks in High Street and in a police vehicle en-route to Hawick Police Station on October 5.
Selkirk Sheriff Court was told that police officers on mobile patrol noticed a group of men arguing outside the Unionist Club.
They spoke to Wiiliams of Clarkston, Glasgow, who became aggressive and accused police of not showing him respect as he was in the Royal Navy.
He then made comments about how the police should be concentrating on arresting "Pakis" and "terrorists."
His lawyer said that a criminal conviction for this type of offence could affect his Royal Navy career and asked if an admonition could be imposed.
Sheriff Raymond McMenamin said he would defer sentence for three months for good behaviour and the matter would be look at again when it recalls on April 6.
