THE Windrush generation is given centre stage as the theatre adaptation of the Orange Prize winning, Small Island, comes to Peebles.
Andrea Levy's story was hailed as "decade defining" in 2004 when it was first published.
And in 2014, when the tale was rewritten for the stage by Helen Edmundsen, the message of the play resonated with real life, as the Windrush scandal was heavily featured in the media.
The tale features a 40-person cast, and follows the journey of Hortense, Gilbert and Michael, as they travel from Jamaica to Britain, where they meet Queenie, during the Second World War until 1948, when the HMT Empire Windrush docked at Tilbury.
Throughout, hope and humanity meet stubborn reality as the play traces the tangled history of Jamaica and the UK.
Small Island screens Friday, February 7 at 7pm.
