POLICE are continuing in their search for a missing woman from Galashiels.

Melita Hachey was last seen on Friday afternoon near her home in Livingstone Place.

And after the alarm was raised during the early hours of Saturday morning a full-scale search, involving rescue teams and a Coastguard helicopter, was mounted around the Leaderfoot area in a bid to find the 30-year-old.

High river levels led to the search being called off several hours later.

Although police enquiries have continued throughout Sunday and into this week, Melita is still missing.

She was last seen wearing a dark coloured parka style jacket with a fur trimmed hood, blue jeans and white trainers.

Melita is described as being white, around five-foot-five and having brown bobbed-style hair.

Inspector John Scott said: “It is out of character for Melita not to be in touch with her family and friends and as time goes on our concern is growing.

"If anyone has any information or knowledge as to Melita’s whereabouts, I would ask them to call us.”

Anyone with information is asked to call Police Scotland on 101.
