TWO leading musicians from area are set to take the stage next month to help Peebles Tennis Club.

The fundraiser will boost a project to provide disabled access to the courts and clubhouse.

Innerleithen's Tommy Ashby has a growing reputation not only as a session musician and songwriter, but also as a performer in his own right.

He appeared on the Quay Sessions for Roddy Hart and his songs have had numerous plays across a range of radio shows.

He has been supported by Radio 2 with spot plays, most specifically by Fearne Cotton. His songs have also been selected for several Spotify editorial playlists and have been sync’d in a number of popular TV shows including Grey’s Anatomy, Riviera, Netflix’s The Innocents and NBC’s Midnight Texas to name a few.

Tommy will be joined on the stage by Magpie Blue.

Magpie Blue’s affection for music began when her dad bought Alt J’s ‘An Awesome Wave’ after their success at the Mercury Awards.

She uses her distinctive voice to illustrate her intriguing yet relatable lyrics, depicting heartbreak and the brutally honest inner thoughts of an anxious mind.

Magpie Blue released her debut single ‘Just in Time’ last year.

The fundraising concert will take place at the Eastgate Theatre on Thursday, March 12.

Peebles Tennis secretary Anne McKinnon said: "We would like to make our tennis facility available to wheelchair users.

"Steep steps make it difficult to access the clubhouse or tennis courts, and the existing toilets are unsuitable for people with disabilities.

"As the clubhouse has succumbed to wood rot, we would like to replace it with a building with appropriate disabled toilet facilities.

"Our plans also include the provision of ramps so that wheelchair users can access the courts from the clubhouse."

Tickets, costing £12, are available from the Eastgate Theatre box office, telephone 01721725777, or online at www.eastgatearts.com
