TWO Peebles dancers have taken home the top trophies from a recent dance competition.

Erica Munnis, aged nine, achieved a dream of hers by winning three first-place trophies at her first even dance competition.

Erica won the awards at the 'Dance, Compete, Achieve' competition, held in Aberdeen's Tivoli Theatre, whilst representing her dance school, Fiona Henderson School of Dance.

The DCA competition covered two days of dancing and attracted hundreds of competing dancers.

Erica takes part in ballet, tap, modern and jazz, and Highland dance classes at the FHSD studios in Peebles and has been a pupil there for several years.

The school's lead, Fiona Henderson, travelled to Aberdeen to support her pupils taking part.

She told us: "Just to take part in this type of competition is quite a step to take and I was so proud of how Erica took everything in her stride.

"She was composed and calm throughout despite the different stage, theatre environment and the pressure of being assessed by two industry judges.

"To come away with any medal placing in even one dance would have been a great achievement so we were blown away with her results of three first placings."

Erica was also cheered on by her mother who travelled to the theatre along with members of her family who were Aberdeen locals.

Another FHSD pupil who was a smash hit at the DCA competition was Imogen Smith, who competed for the first time in the advanced category.

At the 2020 DCA competition Imogen won second and third place medals.

Imogen was promoted to the advanced level after her good track record of success in the lower categories.
