DRIVERS on the A7 face further disruption this week with planned night-time closures south of Hawick.

The road will be closed in both directions from 8pm to 6am at Hoghill on Wednesday (March 18).

And it will be shut again during the same hours the following night (March 19/20).

There will also be a closure at the Mosspaul Hotel, between 8pm and 6am, on Thursday and Friday nights (March 19 and 20/21).

Lengthy diversions will be in place during the three nights - southbound traffic will be directed to exit the A7 at North Bridge Roundabout in Hawick and follow the A698 Weensland Road to join the A6088. From here, vehicles will join the B6357 to Canonbie and then travel via the B7201 to re-join the southbound A7.

Northbound traffic will follow the same diversion in the opposite direction.

The £85,000 works will improve the condition of the carriageway and verges, and will reduce the need for more extensive maintenance in the future.

The scheme has been planned in consultation with Transport Scotland, Traffic Scotland, the emergency services, Dumfries & Galloway Council and Scottish Borders Council.
