A MEDICAL centre in the Borders has blocked all appointments after a member of staff tested positive for coronavirus.

The member of the medical staff at Hay Lodge Health Centre in Peebles was confirmed as having the virus over the weekend.

And others are now in self-isolation.

Bosses at the practice have now told everyone with appointments to stay away.

A spokesperson for Hay Lodge said: "Unfortunately, we have had to take a decision over the weekend, in the interest of prioritising our resources to the vulnerable and sick, to institute a number of significant changes.

"This is the result of a member of staff testing positive for coronavirus and others self-isolating.

"If you have a booked appointment, with either a GP or Practice Nurse - do not attend..

"We will attempt to contact you by phone to discuss your requirements."

Anyone with an urgent enquiry is asked to contact the practice by telephone.

And prescription requests are to be left in the white box at the entrance foyer.

The spokesperson added: "We very much regret the requirement to undertake these measures, and recognise the inconvenience this will cause.

"We are grateful to our patients for their understanding and assistance at a challenging time."

Services at the neighbouring Hay Lodge Hospital, such as physiotherapy, treatment room, and consultant appointments will all go ahead as normal.
