A PEEBLESSHIRE choir group has been singing online to conquer virus restrictions.

InChorus members resumed rehearsals in a virtual setting after being devastated by news they could no longer meet up.

During their video reunion, the singers continued as usual – chatting to one another, bantering, catching up on their lockdown antics, and most important of all, they sang.

And musical director of the choir, Ondrej Soukup, was keen to get the online video conference service up and running for the group, organising the rehearsals as soon as possible.

Ondrej told the Peeblesshire News: "I realised it was essential for InChorus to join together without delay.

"We all miss each other too much. I therefore set about organising rehearsals that are a bit different from normal but which are proving to be enormous fun."

Although enjoyable for all the vocalists, some were sceptical of how the video rehearsals would work.

Ondrej added: “We are beginning to learn a new song appropriate to the current situation, so we hope the public will look out for our performance appearing on social media in the weeks to come.”

Sixty-three singers joined the virtual sing-along on Monday evening, with the various sections staying in contact and rehearsing at home before the whole choir came together.

As well as looking to share their first online performance over social media, InChorus has been posting 'throwback' videos of past performances, including one of their all time favourites, Jackie Wilson's 'Higher and Higher'.

Choir manager Cath Shepheard said: "Just like everyone else in the country, we are missing our families greatly. Over and above that we are missing our InChorus family.

"Between our main rehearsal and our smaller sectional sessions we are finding that this is a wonderful way to keep us all connected, and are proud to report that almost all of our big choir has managed to login."

InChorus rehearsals are held online, using Zoom, every Monday evening.
