SELKIRK Community Council hosted its first online annual general meeting (AGM) yesterday evening (Monday, June 15).

During the meeting, all current members remained in their posts, with council chairman Alistair Pattullo the first to be retained.

Reflecting on the coronavirus outbreak, Mr Pattullo told members: "Since our last meeting, our lives have changed."

He went on to praise the work of the Selkirk Response Team, which treasurer Judith Thompson reported had received a total of £1,250 over the previous year.

Mr Pattullo particularly commended the efforts of Graham Easton for helping residents during the virus crisis.

He added: "I'm sure this community council will continue to do the best for the community."

After confirming appointments to community council roles, items of regular business were raised.

Topics included:

  • Concerns over water continuing to run off Forest Mill at Dunsdale Road
  • David Deacon's suggestion that a local high school pupil should join the committee
  • Praise for Selkirk's resilience during the pandemic – Caroline Cochrane described the creation of face masks as "a great bit of community spirit"

Ms Cochrane also outlined plans for Selkirk Farmers' Market, noting local stall holders' hopes that the event would return before August.

Ms Cochrane said there is a "lot of work to be done", adding that only food stalls will feature when the market returns.
